Yet another thing that I've had sitting around 90% finished for months. It's fanart for Passion, a musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, the same guys who did Into the Woods (while Sweeney Todd was Sondheim with Hugh Wheeler). [link] [link] Probably my favorite musical ever.
I figured Passion would have made a great 1960s shoujo manga -- it's got the elaborate period costumes, traaaaagic romance, drama, flower imagery, pointless comic relief side characters, etc. etc. So I gave Clara, Giorgio and Fosca the shoujo treatment, resulting in quite possibly the girliest-looking thing I've ever drawn. Of course, to truly be a proper '60s shoujo hero, Giorgio would need a more luxurious mullet. I settled for luxurious sideburns instead. Definitely not my best work in terms of proportions or marker work; Giorgio's face looks especially weird. But I'm still quite pleased with the overall effect. Passion © Stephen Sondheim et al |

Happiness in stories is at most only a couple of lines at the end. The epitome of boredom. Now, show me a magnificent tragedy! A cataclysm of tears from which not one of the players is saved, and to which a happy ending never comes!
